There’s a maroon sign with gold letters on a gray two-story building at 139 Middletown Ave.: Thai Yummy Express & Catering, with the phone number painted right on it. If you drove by last summer, there was a red “Coming Soon” banner under it. Now there’s a steady stream of pickup orders going out the door, and the menu runs well beyond the usual pad Thai and curry.
Thai Yummy has been open about a year, and the reviews on Google have been strong. Here’s who runs it, what’s on the menu and what North Haven diners say about it.
A family business on Middletown Avenue
The business is registered with the state as Thai Yummy Express Asian Food and Catering LLC. It was registered on May 5, 2025, at the Middletown Avenue address, and it’s listed as active. State business records list Rasmey Sieng and Timothy Sieng of East Haven and Suksawan Koeub of Wallingford as its principals.
A Google Street View image taken in July 2025 shows the sign already up, with the “Coming Soon” banner hanging under it. The earliest Google reviews date to about a year ago. Early this year, a diner named Dorthy wrote, “We decided to try this new Thai restaurant when we were in North Haven and were so glad we did!”
Reviewers keep mentioning the woman who runs the counter. Joyce wrote that the owner “didn’t mind explaining the good cuisine she is able to serve you,” and that the staff “always came back to see if we needed anything.” Joyce called it “definitely a family oriented atmosphere” and noted how busy it was, with “a lot of customers” streaming in and out for pickup orders.
On its website, the restaurant describes its food as “crafted from fresh ingredients and time-honored recipes” with “a modern touch.”
Part restaurant, part Asian grocery
Thai Yummy isn’t just a kitchen. There’s a small Asian grocery inside, with shelves of sauces, noodles, snacks and drinks along the walls. Dorthy called it handy “for any emergency Asian cooking needs.” If you’ve ever had to drive to New Haven for fish sauce or a particular curry paste, it’s worth a look.

There’s seating for people who want to eat in, but much of the business is takeout. The restaurant takes orders online through its own ordering site, and a flyer at the counter has a QR code you can scan to order. The site asks customers to order there directly “to support local businesses.” Online orders have a 15- to 30-minute pickup window, and delivery is offered through the site too.
The menu
Thai Yummy’s online menu is long. It has 18 sections, from appetizers and soups to curries, wok dishes, fried rice, noodle bowls, salads and a “Yummy Specials” section.
The basics are reasonably priced. Pad Thai, drunken noodles, pad see ew and the house fried rice start at $13.95, and the red, green, panang, massaman and mango curries start at $14.95. Cup-size soups like tom yum and tom kha gai are $5.95.
The lunch special is one of the better deals in town. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday, lunch Pad Thai, drunken noodles or fried rice is $12.
The menu also goes beyond Thailand. There’s a pho with grilled beef, a baguette sandwich with pâté and ham called the Yummy Asian Sandwich for $7.50, Japanese takoyaki octopus balls and fried pork gyoza. Kuchai, fried chive cakes with dark sweet soy sauce, are $7.95.

What to order
Yummy Udon Tom Kha ($18.95). This is the dish people post about. It’s thick udon noodles with shrimp and chicken in a creamy tom kha coconut broth with mushrooms, scallions and basil, finished with cheese. “Thai Tom Kha + Japanese Udon = Match made in heaven!” Xin wrote. Xin called the broth “rich and comforting” and said the noodles had “that perfect chewy bite.” The same udon also comes in spicy basil, tom yum, green curry and yaki versions.
Pad Thai ($13.95). It’s the classic: stir-fried rice noodles with bean sprouts, scallions, egg and peanuts. Dorthy’s table ordered it along with the chicken noodle soup and said “both were delicious, and the ingredients tasted fresh and high quality.” For $18.95 there’s a version topped with crab meat.
Crispy Duck ($25.75). It’s the priciest thing on the menu: golden, boneless duck over steamed string beans, carrots and broccoli. It also comes as red curry duck, tamarind duck and hot basil duck.

A noodle soup. The chicken noodle soup ($13.95) comes with thin rice noodles, bean sprouts, fried garlic and cilantro. The beef stew noodles ($18.95) come in broth with basil, celery and lime. The Kaw Koh braised beef stew ($17.50) has beef, honeycomb tripe, lemongrass, carrots and potatoes. One reviewer gave the beef noodle soup five stars, writing that “the broth was rich and aromatic, the beef slices were tender, and the herbs added such freshness.”

Steamed rice with roasted pork ($13.95). Roasted pork over rice with a fried egg, lettuce and cucumber, with sweet fish sauce on the side. The same reviewer called it “an absolutely delicious” plate and wrote that “the dipping sauce really tied everything together.” The grilled salmon plates, garlic, teriyaki or choo chee, are $19.95. That reviewer described the salmon as “moist on the inside with a tasty savory sauce on top.”
Save room for dessert. Mango with sticky rice and Thai custard with sticky rice are $7.95 each. Thai iced tea, Thai iced coffee and the house mango tea are $5.50.

Catering for a crowd
The “Catering” on the sign is for real. Thai Yummy sells party trays: a small tray of pad Thai or drunken noodles is $60, and a large tray is $120. Fried rice trays are $50 and $100, and beef or shrimp costs more. Appetizers come by the 50: 50 egg rolls are $47.50, 50 crab rangoon are $42.50, and 50 fresh rolls are $100. With the holidays coming, that’s an easy option for an office party or a family gathering.

What locals say
The Google reviews keep coming back to the same few things: the food is fresh, the portions are generous, and the people behind the counter are warm. “The food was so delicious! We went as a group and ordered different kinds of food and appetizers and everything was delicious,” Sarab wrote.
Dorthy summed it up this way: “The owner was very friendly as well… Would highly recommend!” Joyce put it more simply: “If you’re into Thai Food, then Thai Yummy is the place to be!”
