Living next door to New Haven means everyone has an opinion about pizza. North Haven doesn’t have to cross the line to find a great pie.

Here are four North Haven pizza spots worth knowing, in no particular order. Call ahead to confirm hours, especially on holidays.

Grand Apizza North

448 Washington Ave. | (203) 239-5786

The veteran of the group. Grand Apizza North thanks customers for more than 20 years of support and serves New Haven-style apizza with classic and specialty toppings, plus a Margherita (red or white), gluten-free pizza, calzones, stuffed breads, subs and Italian entrees. There’s pizza by the slice and a private room for parties.

Hours: Tuesday 4-9 p.m.; Wednesday-Saturday noon-9 p.m.; Sunday noon-8 p.m.; closed Monday.

Venezia Pizza

34 Middletown Ave. | (203) 691-1078

The newcomer with a twist. This family-owned shop makes its dough in-house daily and works the owners’ Mexican heritage into the menu with Mexican flavors and spices. If you want something you won’t find at the usual places, start here.

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; Sunday 2-9 p.m.; closed Monday.

Giulio’s Pizza

126 Middletown Ave. | (203) 239-3515

A Middletown Avenue fixture since 1987, according to the restaurant. Giulio’s makes its dough fresh daily and has a lounge with big-screen TVs, cold beer, cocktails and a happy hour, so it works for game night as well as family dinner. The menu also runs to appetizers like wings, garlic knots and clams on the half shell, plus Italian specialties.

Hours: Open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to closing.

Gagliardi’s

1899 Hartford Tpke. | (203) 691-7215

Chef-owner Vincenzo Gagliardi cooks with ingredients grown on site, and his daughter Michelina works beside him. Pizza shares the menu with Italian dinners and seafood pasta. It’s the place to go when half the table wants a pie and the other half wants linguine.

Hours (per its website): Tuesday 4-10 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday 11 a.m.-10 p.m.; Friday-Saturday 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sunday noon-9 p.m.; closed Monday.

A note on Mondays

Three of these four are closed Mondays. If it’s a Monday pizza craving, Giulio’s is your best bet on this list.
