North Haven voters have more ways to cast a ballot this fall than ever before, and the first deadline is less than two weeks away.
Connecticut’s state election is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Before then, North Haven residents can vote in person on any of 14 days at the Mildred A. Wakeley Community and Recreation Center on Linsley Street. And new this year, any voter can request an absentee ballot without giving a reason, according to the Secretary of the State’s office.
Here’s what to know, drawn from the North Haven Registrars of Voters’ 2026 schedule and voter pages on the town website and from the Connecticut Secretary of the State’s 2026 election calendar, registration deadlines and early voting guide.
What’s on the ballot
The Nov. 3 ballot includes governor and lieutenant governor, plus the other statewide offices: secretary of the state, treasurer, comptroller and attorney general. North Haven voters will also choose a member of Congress for the 3rd District, a state senator, a state representative and a judge of probate.
Your exact districts and candidates will be on your sample ballot. The state says sample ballots usually go up on MyVote.CT.gov about a week before the election.
Deadline No. 1: Register by Friday, Oct. 16
To vote in North Haven you must be a U.S. citizen and a North Haven resident, and you must be at least 17 and turn 18 by Election Day. Oct. 16 is the last day for regular registration, and the cutoff depends on how you sign up:
- Online: Finish by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 16 at voterregistration.ct.gov. The town says to use your 9-digit Connecticut license number as your ID.
- By mail: The state’s 2026 guidance says mailed forms must be received by Oct. 16. The town’s schedule says postmarked. To be safe, mail it this week or register online. The mail-in form is on the Registrars of Voters page at northhaven-ct.gov.
- At the DMV: By close of business Oct. 16.
- In person: At the Registrars of Voters office or the Town Clerk’s office. Both are in Memorial Town Hall, 18 Church St.
One detail is easy to miss. The registrars’ office is normally open Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and it’s closed Fridays. But state law requires every town’s registrars to hold a registration session on Friday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Call ahead to confirm where it will be.
Already registered but moved or changed your name? The state’s site, MyVote.CT.gov/register, handles updates too.
Early voting: Oct. 19 to Nov. 1 at the Rec Center
North Haven’s early voting site is the Mildred A. Wakeley Community and Recreation Center, 7 Linsley St. The state’s early voting location list confirms the site. The town’s voter information page says early voters go to Classroom 1, not to their regular polling place.
- Every day, Oct. 19 to Nov. 1: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., including both weekends (Oct. 24-25 and Oct. 31-Nov. 1).
- Extended hours: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, and Thursday, Oct. 29.
- Missed the registration deadline? You can register and vote the same day at the early voting site during all early voting hours.
Two things are new this year, according to the Secretary of the State’s office. Early voters will feed their completed ballots straight into a tabulator instead of sealing them in an envelope. And every voter must both print and sign their name in the log book at check-in.
Accessible voting machines and curbside voting are available during early voting. Questions go to the registrars at (203) 672-0598.
Absentee ballots: No excuse needed
Starting in 2026, Connecticut voters no longer need a reason, like illness or being out of town, to vote by absentee ballot. It’s a two-step process:
- Apply. Apply online at MyVote.CT.gov/absentee, or pick up an application at the North Haven Town Clerk’s office in Memorial Town Hall, (203) 239-5321, ext. 8630. Add your phone number and email so the clerk can reach you if something’s wrong.
- Vote and return it. Printed ballots became available Oct. 2. Once your application is approved, the clerk mails your ballot. Print and sign your name on the return envelope. The privacy sleeve is optional.

You can return your ballot three ways:
- By mail. It must reach the Town Clerk by 8 p.m. Nov. 3, so don’t wait until the last few days.
- In the official drop box right outside the front entrance of Memorial Town Hall. The clerk empties it every weekday until the polls close at 8 p.m. Nov. 3.
- In person to the Town Clerk. If you hand-deliver your own ballot, the state election calendar says to do it by Monday, Nov. 2.
Be careful about who handles your ballot. A spouse, child, parent or sibling who lives with you can mail it or drop it off. So can a caregiver you named on your application, a police officer or a registrar of voters. Anyone else who takes or returns another person’s absentee ballot can be charged with a Class D felony. You can track your ballot on MyVote.CT.gov. If you forget to sign the envelope, the clerk will try to reach you so you can fix it before the polls close.
Election Day, Nov. 3: Find your polling place
On Election Day, polls are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. If you’re in line by 8 p.m., you can vote. North Haven has five polling places, all in school or Rec Center gyms:
- District 1: Mildred A. Wakeley Recreation Center, 7 Linsley St.
- District 2: Montowese Elementary School, 145 Fitch St.
- District 3: Ridge Road Elementary School, 1341 Ridge Road
- District 4: Green Acres Elementary School, 146 Upper State St.
- District 5: Clintonville Elementary School, 456 Clintonville Road

Not sure which district you’re in? Look up your address at MyVote.CT.gov/lookup, or use the “Voting Districts by Street” list on the registrars’ page of the town website. Every polling place has accessible voting equipment, and curbside voting is available for anyone who can’t get inside. Call the registrars at (203) 672-0598 or (203) 239-5321, ext. 8640, on Election Day.
Registering on Election Day? Don’t go to your polling place. North Haven’s same-day registration site is the Registrars of Voters office in Memorial Town Hall, 18 Church St. Bring ID. The town notes the office is elevator-accessible.
What ID to bring
Most North Haven voters can show a Connecticut driver’s license, a Social Security card or any preprinted ID that shows their name with their address, signature or photo. If you don’t have any of those, you can sign a state affidavit (Form ED-681) at the polls.
First-time voters who registered by mail have tighter rules. If your name has an asterisk next to it on the voter list, you’ll need a current photo ID with your name and address. You can also show a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, government check or other government document with your name and address. Without one, you’ll cast a provisional ballot.
Who to call
North Haven’s registrars of voters are Jim Carew and Jennifer Vanacore, at Memorial Town Hall, 18 Church St., (203) 239-5321, ext. 8640. Absentee ballot questions go to the Town Clerk’s office, ext. 8630. For statewide information, go to MyVote.CT.gov, or text VOTE to 860-321-4221 for election updates from the Secretary of the State.
