North Haven has its hometown paper back.
Starting today, the North Haven Courier is publishing again: online, local and free to read. We cover town hall decisions, school news, police and fire, roads and construction, new restaurants and shops, things to do on the weekend, and the people who make this town what it is.
Why now
For years North Haven had its own Courier. The paper was published by Shore Publishing and its parent, The Day Publishing Co., and readers knew it on Zip06.com. It started as the North Haven Courier, later merged with the East Haven Courier into a single paper that alternated between the two towns, and kept covering North Haven week after week.
That run ended on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, when the final edition was published. Managing Editor Laura Robida announced the closure in a note to readers the week before. The New Haven Register’s Mark Zaretsky covered the news at the time, and First Selectman Michael Freda summed up what it meant for town: “We’ve always had two local papers. Now we’re down to one.”
Back issues covering 2008 through 2024 survive in the Newspapers.com archive. They show what a town paper does: Little League scores, zoning fights, new businesses, obituaries, and the meetings most people never get to.
We think North Haven deserves that again.
Who we are
The new North Haven Courier is run by the same small local team behind the Milford Voice (milfordvoice.com). We’re not connected to the old paper’s publisher. We took the name because it belongs to this town and its readers, and we intend to earn it.
What we’ll cover
- Town government: Board of Selectmen, Planning and Zoning, the WPCA, budgets and tax bills, reported straight and without spin.
- Schools: North Haven Public Schools news, calendars, achievements and decisions that affect families.
- Public safety: official announcements from the North Haven Police and Fire departments, road closures and traffic changes.
- Development and roads: what’s being built, what’s being proposed, and what it means for your commute.
- Business: openings, closings, anniversaries and the people behind North Haven’s restaurants and shops.
- Things to do: library programs, Parks and Rec events, festivals, live music and weekend ideas.
How we work
We build every story from primary sources: town documents, official announcements, businesses’ own websites and the people involved. When another outlet broke a story first, we say so and link to it. If we get something wrong, we fix it and tell you.
Help us
The best local stories come from readers. If you see something, know something or think we’re missing something, tell us. Your neighbors want to know too.
Got a new business opening? A team heading to the playoffs? A pothole that’s been there since spring? Send it.
Welcome back, North Haven. Let’s get to work.
