North Haven’s sewer use bills are due Nov. 1.
The town’s Water Pollution Control Authority approved the 2026 sewer use charges on Sept. 28, according to a legal notice posted on the town’s website. The charges were filed Sept. 29.
The rates
- Type I: $460 per year.
- Type II: $920 per year.
- Type III (metered): $7.14 per 1,000 gallons.
Type I and Type II are flat annual charges. Type III users are billed on metered water use.
When to pay
Bills are due Nov. 1 and payable within 30 days, through Dec. 1, without penalty.
There’s an exception for larger metered bills. Type III bills over $500 are split into two installments:
- First half: due Nov. 1, payable without penalty through Dec. 1.
- Second half: due May 1, 2027, payable without penalty through June 1, 2027.
Late payments are subject to interest under state law, so it pays to mark the calendar.
Quick math for metered users
At $7.14 per 1,000 gallons, a Type III property that used 60,000 gallons would owe $428.40, due in one payment. A property that used 100,000 gallons would owe $714, which crosses the $500 line and gets split into two installments of $357.
How to appeal
Property owners who disagree with their charge can appeal to the WPCA. Under the notice, appeals must be filed within 21 days. The notice is signed by WPCA Chairman Leonard Thomas. The WPCA is the town board that oversees North Haven’s sewer system and sets its user charges.
Why it matters
Sewer use charges are separate from your property tax bill. They pay for operating North Haven’s sewer system, and every connected property gets one.
