YoYo Chicken is coming to North Haven.

The halal fried chicken chain is opening its first Connecticut location at 111 Universal Drive North, in the Home Depot plaza. It’s taking over roughly 2,500 square feet in the former Punjabi Kadhai space, as The Connecticut Scoop first reported Oct. 1. CT Insider and Hoodline have also covered the plan.

No opening date has been announced.

What YoYo Chicken serves

The chain’s menu is built around crispy chicken: tenders, sandwiches and sliders, plus smash burgers, waffle fries and milkshakes. YoYo’s own website notes its food is halal.

A New York chain heads north

YoYo Chicken’s website lists about two dozen locations across New York and New Jersey, from Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan to Long Island, the Bronx, Staten Island, Kingston, N.Y., and Bayonne, N.J.

North Haven would be its first restaurant in Connecticut.

The company describes its restaurants as casual, family-friendly gathering places with dine-in, takeout and delivery. Its “Our Story” page says fried chicken, burgers and sandwiches have been at the heart of the menu from day one, made fresh to order, and that the goal is fast food that “still feels personal.”

YoYo also runs its own mobile app for ordering and rewards, so expect online ordering once the North Haven store is up and running.

The location

The Home Depot plaza on Universal Drive North is one of North Haven’s busiest shopping stops, near the I-91 corridor. The former Punjabi Kadhai space sits in the plaza’s row of smaller storefronts.

What’s next

The company hasn’t said when it will open or start hiring. We’ll keep an eye on the space and report the opening date as soon as YoYo Chicken announces it.
